The Brand

Welcome to The Brand — the heraldry corner of Wolf & Steer. This is where we explain who we are, what the mark means, and why it ended up on a t-shirt.

What Wolf & Steer actually is

We're a small working family farm on 30 triangular acres in Ithaca, Michigan. The name is literal, and it splits in two.

  • Wolf — our two husky-mix siblings, Chase and Everest. We raised them from puppies down in Texas, and they came north with us when we moved. Chase is the square-jawed sentry. Everest is the wilder one (she once escaped the pen and trotted back with a baby deer, which tells you everything). They are part of the reason we're here at all.
  • Steer — the cattle. Thirteen head of Scottish Highlands, Black Dexters, and mini moos. Belle the ginger Highland. Scarlet and her white fluffball son Q-tip, the first calf born on the farm. Q-tip's best bud Leo. The Black Dexter brothers Jax and Happy. And of course Barry, the white goat who once climbed onto Belle's back for a nap and refused to get down — the unofficial mascot, scheming mastermind, and Most Sophisticated Goat in the World.

About the crest

The crest is shorthand for all of it. The dogs, the cattle, the goats, the peacocks, the chickens, the land. One mark, one farm, one slightly chaotic roster of animals we're lucky to wake up to.

Right now this collection is small — just The Crest Tee on a soft Bella+Canvas 3001 unisex blank, printed on demand in the USA. It's the cleanest way to wear the brand if you're into what we're doing out here.

Browse below, and if you're curious about the animals behind the mark, swing over to our Meet the Animals collection to put faces to the names.
